TWO women told a medical disciplinary inquiry how they suffered sexual advances from a Barnt Green gynaecologist.

A midwife, called Miss B, told the inquiry how Dr Andrew Gbinigie locked her in a room, grabbed her wrists and pushed her backwards onto a sink before trying to kiss her.

And a hospital audit officer, known as Mrs C, told the professional conduct committee of the General Medical Council (GMC) that she was "terrified" when he put his hands on her shoulders and she had to push him away.

Married

The doctor had previously offered Mrs C a ride in his TVR car and invited her to dinner, even though she told him she was married. She said she was on anti-depressants and had been seeing a counsellor since the incidents at a Dudley hospital in May and June, 2000.

"It has affected my whole life and changed my personality," Mrs C said.

Miss B said that Dr Gbinigie, who is registered as a consultant gynaecologist in Mears Lane, Barnt Green, had put his hand on her knee and asked her out, saying there was "something special" between them. In another incident, she had gone to discuss a problem with him when he locked the door, grabbed her wrists and tried to kiss her.

"I told him this was terrible and I was going to scream," she said.

Accused

Dr Gbinigie, who was trained in Nigeria, is accused of behaving improperly towards both women while working for Dudley Hospitals NHS Trust between 1995 and his resignation in 2000. He also faces a charge of inadequate care and performing an operation beyond the limits of his clinical competence arising from his first day at the private Calthorpe Clinic in Birmingham on November 6, 2000. The hearing in central London has heard that he botched an abortion on a 21-year-old patient and three other medics had to save her life.

Dr Gbinigie denies the charges.

The hearing continues.
