ONE of the busiest men at the Harkaway Club's nine-race point-to-point at Chaddesley Corbett on Saturday was the tractor driver who spent a consid-erable time hauling vehicles out of the clinging mud.
On the course, Supreme Citizen with her regular pilot Jane Williams on board, battled through the testing conditions to land a hard fought Ladies' Open.
This qualifies the gelding to take his chance in the Gerrard final at Wetherby in May.
The favourite, Gill'Mar, had every chance turning for home, but was unable to match the winner's speed over the last three fences. The winner is trained by Jane's mother at Enville, near Stourbridge.
Mr Naborro provided Jim Callow with a welcome 34th wedding anniversary present with success in division one of the 5, 6 and 7-year-old Maiden.
Jockey Adrian Wintle dictated the pace from flag fall and got first run on their rivals in the home straight and was always in command from then on.
Mr Naborro's stablemate Snowtre started warm favourite in division two and was expected to provide a double for his Broome, near Kidderminster, connections. But he was unable to mount an effective chal-lenge in a race won in impressive style by Petrouge.
Tim Stephenson and Clive Hitching's Thatsforeel were unable to cope with the strong finish of Mr Kermit in the opening Members' race.
Stephenson also had to settle for the runner's up berth in the Restricted when long time leader Paddy Bettalot could find no extra to hold Irilut's challenge over the last two fences.
Stephenson finally struck gold in the Men's Open when the Clive Hitchings-owned Fontaine again proved too strong for their chief market rival Cascum Lad.
Alan Hollingsworth, who has five pointers at his Feckenham stable, scored his first win of the season when Star Changes out-stayed Southern Cross in the three-runner Moderate event.
