CHAIRWOMAN Jenny Johnson welcomed members on February 13 and future social events were highlighted which included two theatre visits.
Our speaker Ron Gallivan, who had experienced a very enjoyable working holiday in New Orleans, took us on a most interesting journey to the deep south, emphasising the culture and architecture predominantly influenced by France, England and Spain and with the introduction of cotton planting in some areas became a centre of wealth for the privileged.
A taste of spicy Creole cooking prepared by wife Julie was enjoyed.
On February 27 James Farquahar made a welcome return and with the aid of slides presented a tour of New England in the Fall which commenced in Boston and the famous Quincy market journeying across attractive countryside to Massachusetts.
A selection of slides from Cornwall rounded off a very pleasant evening.
A group of members have been taking advantage of tuition in 'do it yourself' in the evenings at a local DIY store.
At our next meeting on March 13 the speaker will be Mr P Maskell who will talk on the history of W.H. Smith.
