Cleobury Mortimer 2nd 65 pts Shrewsbury 2nd 3
CLEOBURY Mortimer fielded a mixture of youth and experience in this friendly match against a weakened Shrewsbury team.
The first team front row gave them a solid base, with youngsters Paul Burrows and Jamie Taylor at lock, and Ian Dayus and Lee Jordan in the back row. Kevin Shields returned to action in the backs after 15 weeks out with injury, and John Hulland made his debut on the wing.
This blend certainly worked and Shrewsbury had no answer to this non-stop attacking rugby as Cleobury remained dominant throughout with the visitors only managing a penalty in reply.
James Allen led the way with a hat-trick of tries and he was backed up with a brace from Willie Bache and Colin Todd.
Hulland was delighted to claim a try on his debut, as was Shields on his comeback. Hooker Rob Kirton and Richard Skidmore also claimed touchdowns, and Colin Smith weighed in with five conversions to complete the rout.
