RUSSIAN cellist Alexander Ivashkin appears at a Celebrity Concert at the Barber Institute of Fine Arts, University of Birmingham, next week.
Mr Ivashkin enjoys an international career as a soloist and has recently made concerto appearances at the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam and at Birmingham's Symphony Hall.
He is joined in a programme of romantic chamber music by clarinettist Colin Lawson who has appeared as soloist at the Lincoln Centre and Carnegie Hall and pianist Kenneth Hamilton who has recently given a series of concerts in the USA and will appear at the Istanbul Festival this summer.
The programme includes Rachmaninov's passionate Cello Sonata together with little-known trios by Glinka and Zemlinsky and the Clarinet Sonata by Castlenuovo-Tedesco, a composer best known for his Hollywood film music.
The concert takes place on Wednesday, March 19, starting at 7.30pm.
Tickets, from £7.50 (£2 students), are available from 0121 414 7333.
