SEVERN Trent has defended itself over complaints about a 33-hour disruption to water supply in Droitwich Road, Feckenham later this week.
The company says there is no other way it can re-line a stretch of pipe in the road without causing more disruption.
A spokesman said pipes were being relined with a resin to improve water quality, but the resin needs time to set before the pipe can be used.
Other sections of the pipe down the road have been worked on early this week and supply was only affected during the day.
"It will save a lot of time in the long run because we won't have to replace the whole system," said the spokesman.
"It is inconvenient, but long term quality will be improved.
"We can make arrangements to get supplies to the elderly, disabled or vulnerable and if there's any problems we just ask them to call us."
About 25 homes will be affected by the work.
In a letter to the Advertiser resident Steve Dalloway said: "No thought seems to have been given to people with children, the elderly or residents with poor eyesight who would be unable to read the notice that came through on Friday last week."
