REDDITCH-based Birmingham City Ladies Football Club may have lost their match on Sunday but they did win a charitable bet with a well-known TV sport presenter.
Gary Newbon had to eat his words when he bet the ladies that they wouldn't get more than 500 fans at their clash with Doncaster Belles at the Valley Stadium.
Unfortunately for Mr Newbon, 583 supporters turned up, which means he has to fork out £583 - but all of it to a good cause.
Blues Ladies' press officer Debbie Cartwright said: "We're going to donate the money to schools in Redditch and Birmingham to try to encourage the development of the ladies' game.
"Hopefully, they can buy some equipment.
"Apparently, Gary is going to write out a cheque on his programme on Thursday."
She added: "All those who came to the game on Sunday have got free entry for our next home game against Brighton on Sunday, March 23."
