BUSINESSMEN and women in Worcestershire who travelled from Birmingham airport during February were among more than half-a-million passengers who made it a record month for the airport.
Birmingham International Airport (BIA) handled 549,963 passengers last month, an increase of 16.4 per cent on the same period last year, and the busiest February on record.
Low fares
"The increased availability of low fares, new routes and increased frequencies from Birmingham were the main factors behind the growth in passengers," said a spokesman.
Scheduled traffic overall was up 14.2 per cent compared to February 2002. Travellers on non-EU services rose by 28.5 per cent and passengers on EU flights grew by 7.8 per cent.
Meanwhile, the number of people using domestic services rose by 24.2 per cent.
Destinations that saw strongest growth were Gothenburg, Malta, Vienna, Stuttgart, Berlin and Frankfurt.
