HOCKEY: A superb display lifted Stourport into sixth place in National Hockey League Division One as they thrashed Brooklands 5-0 on Sunday.
Stourport are higher than Southgate and Bournville on points difference, while Brooklands are now stranded at the bottom of the table.
The key to the Wyre Forest side's success was the ball control and distribution of Pakistan internationals Imran and Irfan Yousaf who had exceptional games.
They were well supported by John Willicombe who anchored the midfield throughout.
Imran Yousaf scored two goals within the first 11 minutes from two identical drag-flick corners.
Brooklands only threatened when capitalising on Stourport mistakes and Matt Simkin in goal was dominant.
The game was effectively won 10 minutes before half-time when Irfan Yousaf passed to Laith El Khatib who centred for Matt Ruxton to slot home from six yards.
Richard John and Simkin snuffed out early Brooklands pressure in the second period and the added space in midfield was exploited by the Yousaf brothers.
Irfan Yousaf set up the fourth with a run and pass that Lee De Souza slid past the advancing keeper.
Phil Lashford, returning from injury, struck the fifth in the 70th minute following Imran Yousaf's 40-yard hit forward.
Stourport face a big test on Sunday when table-topping Old Loughtonians visit.
Shrewsbury 3 Stourport 2nds 4
Stourport had to make positional changes with top scorer Tom White pushed into the back four and they soon fell two goals behind through poor marking.
The defence held firm until the break and the home side began the second half in determined fashion, forcing Shrewsbury to defend deep in numbers.
Phil Baldwin pulled a goal back within 10 minutes of the half following a sequence of short corners.
Ben Gray soon equalised and Shrewsbury were reduced to sporadic break-aways though one put them ahead.
White, now back in attack, scored a simple equaliser following a one-two with Gray before Lashford grabbed the winner with two minutes left.
He latched onto Andy Pocknell's long through-ball and raced away to fire into the roof of the net.
Stourport 3rds 4 Nottingham University 2
Stourport remain in the hunt for league honours after a workman-like victory.
David Knott was again the danger man, bagging a hat-trick, and Ian Lye sealed victory with a simple close-range tap-in.
The experience of Bruce Baron and Ian Roberts at the back ensured an easy afternoon for the thirds.
West Bridgford 1 Stourport 4ths 3
Mark Edwards stepped up from the sixth team in style, capping his man-of-the-match display with a brace of goals.
John Shackleton and Steve Taylor provided the strength in midfield areas, while Godfrey Lamb completed the scoring.
Mike Taylor's men are looking to build on their position near the top of the tale.
Stourport 5ths 5 Harborne 3
The experience of Robin Conway, Adrian Moulam and Neil Stone proved too much for Harborne.
Conway scored a hat-trick and Moulam added a fourth. But Gareth Whale scored the best goal of all and keeper Keith Wills played well despite conceding three.
Stourport Blue Badgers 4 Evesham 1
A brace of goals each for William Terry and Ashley Jones chalked up Stourport's 13th home win out of 16 matches.
Despite fielding no adults, they prevented their visitors scoring until the second half.
Kings Heath 0 Stourport White 6
Four goals for Max Totney and two for Oliver Butler saw off the Birmingham side with ease.
Sixths captain Kevin Hughes played in goal and was able to see the talented juniors who hope to play for his team.
Fixture, Saturday: Blue v Old Silhillians (12.30pm), Droitwich v White (4.30pm). Sunday: Stourport 1sts v Old Loughtonians (1pm).
A single goal defeat proved the difference between Stourport U-13s and eventual winners Bromsgrove School in the National Mini-hockey Championships' Worcestershire group.
Stourport had earlier defeated Kings Heath 2-0, Droitwich 1-0, Evesham 2-0 and Nunnery Wood, Worcester, 3-0 and 2-1.
