ATHLETICS: Les Jones admitted his "love affair" with running is set to go on after the Kidderminster man completed his 100th race at marathon level or further.
The 53-year-old negotiated a gruelling 40-mile track ultra-marathon around Jenner Park, Barry, to reach the milestone, fending off a thigh muscle injury on the way.
Jones, who clocked seven hours seven minutes 35 seconds, was one of 28 runners who finished as six others dropped out.
The independent runner, a caretaker at St Ambrose School, said: "I just love it. I started running in 1982 and then did the London Marathon in 1983 with my uncle Bob Stewart. It has been a great love affair ever since.
"Running my 100th was very special. I was a bit elated and emotional afterwards. Many years ago I had a slipped disc and running has really helped that.
"I keep churning the marathons out but will be having a good rest for a bit and a few pints!"
Jones has run the 55-mile London to Brighton challenge three times, managing 33rd place more than five years ago.
He has also completed two races on Snowdon over the years as part of his love for fell racing.
In 1989, the marathon man completed the Stratford event in his best time of 2-57.
