JUDO: Samurai finished top of the medals table at the 17-club Derbyshire Open Championships with six each of gold, silver and bronze.
Emily Watson and Amy Oertel opened the scoring in the lightest U-28kg category with two medals.
Watson reached the semi-finals before losing a good battle to a Nottingham girl but she bounced back for bronze.
Oertel went one better to reach the final but was caught cold at the start of the contest by the same opponent and ended with silver.
Stacey Mayo finished fifth despite one fine with a neat groundwork move in the U-36kg section.
Samantha Jones made no mistake in the next category though, throwing her opponents emphatically and ending on three maximum-point wins to earn gold.
Kerrie Pitcock earned her sixth gold in the last six months with another powerful display to show her North-West Senior Open champion mother who is top lady in the family.
Katherine Lloyd Jones's lack of experience cost her in the final but the emerging talent emerged with a silver after emphatic victories, including one in just three seconds.
In the lightest boys category, British national medallist Greg Oertel won the bronze in style after paying the price for a single mistake in the quarter-finals.
Alex Dowling, who also trains at a Birmingham club, topped his pool as well but eventually lost an epic final on a single score in added time.
Benji Connor made no mistakes, giving a great display of judo on his way to winning a one-sided final where he nearly ran up a cricket score.
Karl Gaughan made it two golds in a row with an assured display, winning every contest by maximum points and never looking troubled.
Another emerging talent, Matthew Lowe, worked hard to break into the U-46kg category though he lost quickly to a much more experienced player.
Ryan Pitcock was not put off by having the lowest grade in the U-50kg category as a series of spectacular wins took him to the semi-finals and eventually a bronze medal.
In the U-55kg category final, Joel Darch did not look on top form against club-mate Ben Dowling and two uncharacteristic mistakes cost him.
Steven Wagstaff earned a bronze in the lower grades section with two excellent maximum-point successes.
Edward Connor also took several contests for his first medal, a silver, and Jack Roberts clinched the gold.
In the girls novices, Amber Gaughan was invited to compete in two categories and secured bronzes in both.
