KETTERING 0 WORCESTER 3

Worcester's first team did not relax in their determination to keep their play and concentration at peak performance despite their winning of the Midland Premier League last week.

The introduction of England under-18 striker Kate Draper on 20 minutes injected pace and awareness into the Worcester's pattern of play, completely transforming the situation. Within one minute she had produced the first telling shot on goal and then combined twice with Jo Walker and Elaine Shepperd to set up the latter to score in the 31st minute.

Immediately after the break it was Draper who extended Worcester's lead when she got the vital deflection to a penalty corner routine in the 38th minute. Draper continued to torment the Kettering defence and in the 55th minute one of her runs caused confusion in the Kettering defence and allowed Shepperd to score her second with a reverse stick shot from close range.

WORCESTER U18s 3 FYFFES LEICESTER 2

In a nail-biting match Worcester de-feated National Premier League club Fyffes Leicester to take their place in the semi-finals of the English Hockey Under 18 Cup competition.

Worcester went a goal down in the eighth minute. Sophie Wood then moved back into defence from midfield and better quality ball started to flow from the back.

On 14 minutes Kate Draper started to rescue the situation with one of her typical goals on the break, rounding the keeper and slipping the ball into the net. Draper had an important part to play in the next goal as she penetrated down the right and set up Welsh under 16 international Jenny Rogers to sweep into the net. Rogers extended the score to 3-1 just before the break when slick passing at a penalty corner found her in space in front of goal with the keeper beaten.

The second half was more even with Fiona Nash in the Worcester goal in top form to defeat England under 21 player Crista Cullen at the set pieces.

Midland's under 17 representatives Tina Evans and Charlene Mason worked hard in midfield to control the game and with five minutes to go Worcester conceded a goal against the run of play.
