TEN new jobs are on the way after a plan to convert a disused Kidderminster warehouse into a fabric superstore passed the planning hurdle.
The Lion Square red brick building will house a 500 sq metre soft furnishing store run by Paul Broadgate, who already owns two outlets in Bilston and Walsall.
Wyre Forest District Council's planning (development control) committee backed officer Paul Wrigglesworth's recommendation the scheme be approved at the Tuesday evening meeting.
Existing Kidderminster fabric stores, led by Forest Fabrics, had voiced fears the development would severely damage their trade.
But in a statement to the district council Mr Broadgate said they traded on a smaller scale and offer a more personal service so would not be in direct competition.
He predicted he would create 10 jobs immediately - three full-time, four part-time and three people working from home - and up to 25 within 18 months.
Mr Broadgate will pay £10,000 towards "sustainable transport and environmental improvements".
A flat for the store manager will be built on the first floor.
