TWO ex-SAS soldiers and mountaineers will be conquering Wyre Forest as they present a spellbinding odyssey of their lives at the Rose Theatre this weekend.

Bronco Lane and Brummie Stokes will tell of their successful ascent of Mt Everest in 1976, their attempts at the North East Ridge - when they were avalanched off the mountain - and how they survived days caught in a snow hole when they literally kept each other alive.

Brummie, who will be sharing his skirmishes which left him bullet-ridden and kneecapless in Oman, said: "Bronco is a life-long friend of mine. Our talk aims to entertain the audience. There will be an element of humour in it as well as a slide show."

The show on Saturday, which starts at 7.30pm, is in aid of The Taste for Adventure Centre - a charity based near Hereford that aims to assist development of under-privileged youngsters.

He added: "This year is the 50th anniversary of the first successful ascent of Mt Everest by Hillary and Tensing.

"To help commemorate the original event we wish to share our own experiences gained climbing the mountain, while fund-raising for The Taste for Adventure Centre."

The centre is the brainchild of Brummie, the third Briton to attain the summit of Everest.

After 30 years of living on-the-edge, in the military and on the slopes of the highest mountains in the world, Brummie said he wanted to invest in the future by enabling less privileged young people to find personal achievement and development through adventurous outdoor activities.

Between them Brummie and Bronco served in the SAS for 45 years.

Both are published authors, Brummie leading off with his autobiography Soldiers and Sherpas then Bronco with Military Mountaineering.
