A man celebrating his golden wedding anniversary will be accompanied by his 95-year-mother.

The couple, who have revealed the secret of their long and happy marriage is not to argue, are celebrating 50 years of marriage today.

Pamela Faulkner and her husband Richard, from Ronkswood Crescent, Worcester, say they have never had an argument during their married life.

"We have had differences of opinions, but never arguments," said 70-year-old Pamela.

"That's probably because when he was working at the railway, he was hardly at home and he did part-time ground-keeping work at Tolladine Golf Course," she joked.

The couple met in 1947 when they both worked for British Rail. "I was just a messenger boy and she was a secretary," said Richard, aged 71. "I used to just speak to her when I went in to the office and it started from there."

"She has been as good as gold and she's always looked after me," added Richard.

The couple did go through a trying period in their relationship when Richard had to complete two years' national service in 1948. He spent most of that time in Malaysia and would write to her every week.

Pamela went on to work as a secretary for the county council in the highways department, while Richard stayed working on the railways until he retired.

The couple have a busy schedule to celebrate their special day and will be joined by their whole family including their two children, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and Richard's 95-year-old mother.

"We are going to renew our vows at St Wulstan's Church, Warndon, because it has always been my church," said Pamela.

"After the service we are going with 23 people to have dinner at Bridges Carvery restaurant, then on the March 30 we are going to Oban, in Scotland for a week.

"We do not do things by halves."
