ROADWORKS along a major road look set to continue frustrating commuters.

Temporary traffic lights are already in place along the A4103 at Bransford Bridge, near Worcester, but the council has warned motorists the road will soon have to close for almost two weeks.

Work to combat flooding along the route - by raising the carriageway almost a metre - began on Monday, March 3.

But the bridge over the River Teme will be closed for 14 days while engineers insert 10 1.8 yards pipes under the road to drain excess water away.

"We have had regular meetings with local residents and decided to take action against the flooding," said Mike Davis, Worcestershire Highway's Partnership Manager.

Problems

"So far we have not had any problems but it's a very complex job. It involves diverting a water-main which is difficult, and means we have to work in partnership with Severn Trent Water."

"When the road has to be closed people will be directed by signs and we will work round the clock to get it done as soon as possible."

The diversion could involve travelling via the A449 to Powick, the road to Stocks Lane and the A4103 to Leigh Sinton.

Mr Davis was unable to give an exact date when the road will close but it is thought to be next week.

Once the road re-opens, work is expected to continue until late May or early June.
