THE shocks of the day in The Soccer Site Malvern Football League were undoubtedly St Peters victory over third in the table Talbot Head and Bell Inn 98's defeat of high-riding Club AC 30.
Prior to this match St Peters had not managed to gain even a point this season. After their close game with Dynamo Ledbury the previous week, when their much improved performance meant they only went down by the odd goal in five, they must have thought their chance had gone.
St Peters must also have thought it was business as usual when Talbot Head took the lead in the fifth minute but suddenly they struck a rich vein of form and found themselves in uncharted territory as they raced to 3-1 lead with goals by Neil Falconer (penalty) Rhys Watkins and Gary Walker.
This stung Talbot Head into action but despite pulling a goal back they could not get the equaliser, with home keeper Connor in superb form and his save in the final moments of the game was outstanding. The final whistle went with St Peters taking a few moments to realise they could celebrate a hard earned victory.
The Talbot Head goalscorers were Rob Merrick and Lee Watts.
Bell Inn 98 also sprung a surprise with a 4-2 victory over previous high flying AC 30. After Matt Rees scored first for AC 30 it was Bell Inn's turn to hit a purple patch and they went in at half time with a 4-1 lead with goals from Mark Herbert, Chris Grubb, an own goal plus a superb header from Dave Beech.
The second half saw AC 30 on the offensive and they pulled a goal back through Paul Drew. Bell Inn 98 keeper Luke Ledbury capped a fine performance with an excellent save from an Aaron Parr penalty.
The Soccer Site Malvern League leaders Bull Allstars were in action at second placed Morgan Aero 8. After a hard fought game, which saw both teams reduced to 10 men, they reinforced their position at the top of the table with a comfortable 5-1 victory. Their scorers were Jamie Gladwin (two), Mark Toman (two) and a deflected shot from Lee Clueit with Morgan Aero 8's reply coming from Michael Griffin.
Madresfield took the points with a 3-2 home victory over Kempsey United Reserves.
Green Dragon kept up their pursuit of Bull Allstars with a comprehensive 5-1 victory over visitors Worcester Juniors. Their scorers in a game which was spoilt by the strong wind were Stuart Graham (two), Craig Turnbull, Darren Gwynne and a Sean Chadwick own goal. Worcester Juniors' goalscorer was Chris White.
In the remaining league game Dynamo Ledbury went down at home 1-2 to Fromes Hill in a scrappy game.
Their goal was scored by John Walker with Neil Gardener and Sean Taylor being on target for Fromes Hill.
In The Soccer Site Malvern Youth League leaders Hereford Lads Club notched up a 10-1 victory over Libbery Wanderers.
Their goalscorers were Ashley Wynne, John Buchanan 2, Andy Bowen 2, Ben Arnold 3, Tom Mclean 2 with Libbery's response coming from Tom Newton-Lewis.
Bromsgrove Town, with two goals from Chris O'Connell to a solitary reply from Barnards Green's Lyndon Roberts, were victorious in the other Soccer Site Malvern League U18 Youth game.
