RANGERS travelled to a very wet but perfectly playable Broomy Hill, Hereford, for this recently contrived Division One South League Cup fixture.

HINTON 4, MALVERN RANGERS 0

Within the opening 10 minutes Rangers lost the services of skipper Mark Tipton when, after an exchange of passes with Rob Barnett, he was injured as he stretched for the ball with one of the Hinton players, later requiring four stitches in a knee injury.

The referee didn't deem the challenge a foul, the ball went up the other end leaving Mark White one on one and Ross Semple opened the scoring at the far post.

Although the home side always looked lively as an attacking force, Rangers certainly enjoyed a fair share of possession without being able to test keeper Dave Spencer to any extent.

In the final 15 minutes of the half the home side scored three goals to put the result beyond doubt. The defending left something to be desired as John Williams (two) and Luke Semple scored to give something of a false reflection of the first half proceedings.

During the second half again Rangers enjoyed a fair share of possession but the nearest they came to reducing the arrears was a header from Carl Preece which struck the cross bar.

Unfortunately not for the first time this season Rangers conceded too many goals in quick succession in that 15 minutes before the interval which killed the game as a contest.

Joint men of the match were Richard Brookes and Ross Sanders.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Rangers, sponsored by Willie Thornes Snooker Club, entertain fellow strugglers Bustleholme Reserves in a West Midlands League Division One South fixture at Victoria Park playing fields. Kick off 2.45pm, players to meet at the ground 1.45pm prompt.
