MADRESFIELD welcomed Kempsey United Reserves in The Soccer Site Malvern Football League on Sunday and a late goal gave the home side a league double in a close game.

Kempsey had enjoyed a five-match winning run and their side, a mixture of youth and experience, played fast, open football with a reputation for hitting teams on the break.

The home side had the better of the opening exchanges but found themselves a goal down. Following a breakaway Madresfield keeper Ashley Cunningham saved the initial shot but Ryan Leigh easily netted the loose ball.

Madresfield hit back with Graham Jones and Adam Morse causing havoc down the flanks and it was from the latter's cross that Sam Black lashed in the equaliser from just inside the box.

Although Madresfield kept the pressure on, with Steve Brookes and Stu Preece in charge in midfield, it was Kempsey who regained the lead with a goal from Stephen Freer.

Kempsey keeper Daniel Moore was in top form, although Madresfield were unlucky when a header from Steve Brookes and a Wayne Cadmore volley both hit the bar.

Madresfield got the equaliser they deserved after a good cross from Wayne Eggerton, who had replaced the injured Ben Clark, found Wayne Cadmore, who rounded the keeper to slot home.

The game seemed to be heading for a draw when a goalmouth scramble saw Andy Growcott grab the late winner for Madresfield.
