WHILST recently taking the by-pass route to the new hospital, I was appalled at the never-ending line of litter on the grass verges, that did not peter out until I turned for Spetchley.
This brought home to me the fact that we must undoubtedly be one of the filthiest countries in the world for litter, since one does not see this when going abroad.
In last week's Malvern Gazette I saw an appeal for more volunteers to help keep Malvern free from litter. Surely this situation should be addressed by teaching our children from as early an age as possible to have pride and respect for their environment, and not to expect others to clear up their debris.
When driving down Geraldine Road at 10am in the morning, I have seen more than once harassed householders attempting to remove litter that has obviously been deposited by pupils from The Chase school. This also follows at Yates Hay Road in the vicinity of Dyson Perrins. These same youngsters are the ones that will ultimately be scattering their litter in our countryside, such as the verges I have mentioned.
