PIANIST Martino Tirimo lines up with the English Symphony Orchestra for the second concert in its New Look spring series.

The ESO enjoyed a sell out for its first concert on Valentine's Day and Tirimo performs in an evening of Viennese Classics, conducted by William Boughton.

At 13, London became Tirimo's home and at 16 he won the Lizst Scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, graduating with the highest honours. After that he completed his studies in Vienna.

Since then he has appeared with many of the world's leading orchestras, including all the major British orchestras and those in Berlin, Cleveland, Dresden, Leipzig, Munich, Prague and elsewhere, with conductors including Barbirolli, Boult, Pritchard, Kurt Sanderling, Masur and Rattle.

The programme includes Schu-bert's Overture in the Italian Style in D D590, Mozart's Piano Concerto No 25 in C K503 and Beethoven's Symphony No 3 in E Op55 Eroica.

These three giants of composition span the transition from classicism to romanticism and the programme features one of the greatest symphonies ever composed - Beethoven's mighty Eroica - originally dedicated to Napoleon, although the dedication was later withdrawn.

The concert is at the Forum, Malvern Theatres on Friday, March 28 at 7.30pm. The Eroica is the subject of a pre-concert talk at 6.45pm.

William Boughton returns from conducting a Schubert Cycle in Finland with the Jyvaskyla Sinfonia to take this performance. His busy schedule has already taken him on tour in Ireland with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and future engagements include conducting in the USA, Scandinavia and South Korea.

Tickets, which range from £7 to £23, are available from box office on 01684 892277.
