NORMAL service has been resumed at Diglis Basin - three months after a freak accident left it drained of water.
Many boaters were left high and dry when British Waterways workers hit an 18th Century storm sewer during improvement building works last December.
They were coming to the end of improvement work on mooring facilities when the final post they hammered in hit the unmarked sewer, which opened up a hole around it.
Many boats were left stuck in the mud, while 30 wooden and fibre-glass bottomed vessels had to be moved to another area.
Boaters raised the alarm as they heard the water swirling away on the night of Thursday, December 12.
A long stretch of the canal, from the basin up to the Commandery, was completely drained.
British Waterways staff had to repair the damage to the hole after helping to move the boats.
But boat owners have had to wait until the canal was refilled before they could use the basin again.
