Thirty-three residents of Watery Lane, some of them with second thoughts, have petitioned Redditch Urban District Council asking that the name should not be altered to Ipsley Drive.
Their petition was placed before a meeting of the public works committee of the council on Monday and read: "We wish to register objections to the alteration of the name of this roadway.
"We think the matter has been handled with unseemly haste and without due consideration of the consequences."
The petition points out the similarity of the proposed new name, Ipsley Drive, with other streets in Redditch and goes on to explain the expense which would be occasioned by businessmen with alterations to letter headings etc and to householders who would have to alter their deeds.
