Studley 2 Quorn 1
STUDLEY booked themselves a two-legged League Cup semi final against yet another top six side after an impressive first half brace from Peter Sutton.
The match was far from Studley's most impressive performance but the hosts had been hamstrung by the loss of top marksman Craig Pountney with an ankle injury.
And with a handful of regulars ruled out, veteran strikers Nicky Cross and Kevin Rowlands had rare outings on the bench along with bucket man Duncan Turk.
Quorn hit the woodwork in the first 60 seconds when a near post corner hit the upright but Mark Neath retaliated in kind at the other end when his rasping drive grazed the bar in the fifth minute and within seconds the Bees were ahead.
Visiting skipper Karl Noble lost the ball in a dangerous position and striker Mark Crisp pounced to feed Sutton who drove low into the net past a stranded David Sharpe.
Ian Mitchell made a goal-saving tackle on Andrew Henderson at the other end and provided a delightful ball down the left channel as Studley scored a sweet second in the 14th minute, Neath running onto it and hitting the byline before his inch perfect cross was thumped home by Sutton with an unstoppable header.
Quorn eventually found their feet and looked the better passing side before pulling one back in the 23rd minute as Roy Sharp streaked down the right and centred for Richard Andrews to head home.
The second half was nip and tuck with Crisp's diving header drawing an impressive stop from Sharpe, Sutton firing wide of an empty net after Sharpe was caught out of position and Vaughan Thomas having a close range stab hacked off the line.
But the result was soured by the injury time dismissal of Neath, who was dragged down by Quorn sub Thomas Cooper but could have no complaints after lashing out a boot Beckham-style towards the player's face.
