Following an article about MP Jacqui Smith's views on the Iraq crisis, Ms Smith has asked us to point out that gaining UN backing should be an aim, but may not be the case.
She said UN backing was preferable but previous unsanctioned action like that in Kosovo had delivered an end to suffering.
She said the possibilities for such an outcome in Iraq could not be ignored.
