MOUNT Pleasant residents are to be asked if they want to sell off the bottom part of their gardens for a housing development.
Plans to build more than 19 homes on two acres of land off Tilehouse, which runs behind part of Mount Pleasant, have been drawn up.
But in order for the houses to be built, residents would have to sell off part of their back gardens.
At a Redditch Council executive committee last week, it was agreed to begin consultation.
Mr Cartwright said individual properties would not get planning permission but a proper housing development would be acceptable.
Meanwhile, plans to build four flats at the rear of 224 Mount Pleasant, on Tilehouse, looked set to be rejected.
Officers have recommended the plan be refused because they felt it was "piecemeal" development.
Councillors were due to decide the issue last night.
