BROMSGROVE Rovers won their first match in three with a 5-2 win over Cinderford Town at the Victoria Ground last night.

Two strikes from Richard Bur-gess and goals for Grant Beckett, Mark Benbow and Steve Frost handed Gary Hackett and Jon Ford's side three vital points in the Dr Martens Western Division promotion race.

Rovers took time to get going but went ahead on 23 minutes when Burgess started and finished a move involving Frost and Les Palmer.

Within 90 seconds it was 2-0 when a Steve Lutz' shot hit the underside of the crossbar and came back out for Frost to scramble home. Lutz had two more efforts saved, while Daryl Addis headed past Matt Lowe's post for Cinderford.

With half-time approaching, Rovers added two more goals inside a minute.

First Beckett bundled the ball over the line before turning provider to set up Burgess who sprinted 30 yards to slot home number four.

Bromsgrove took their foot off the gas at the start of the second period and Cinderford, with three subs on, pulled a goal back when Paul Donnelly stabbed the ball home in the 51st minute.

Home nerves were calmed on 70 minutes as Benbow nodded home the fifth via goalkeeper and post. But the visitors were not finished, adding a second with three minutes left when Scott Griffin beat Lowe.
