BROMSGROVE RFC First XV made it three wins in four and kept their faint hopes of Midlands One survival alive by winning 28-12 at already relegated Barkers Butts.

An explosive game, which saw five yellow cards, two against Bromsgrove players, and one red card started with Bromsgrove in control.

The Finstall Park side, still not at full strength, dominated the first ten minutes with the hosts, without a point this season, barely laying a hand on the ball.

A try on two minutes by centre David Wilkinson and another on ten minutes by flanker Richard Arnold, the former converted by Matt Birch, gave the visitors a 12-0 lead.

Further Bromsgrove pressure went without a score and slowly Barkers Butts began to take the game to the visitors, winning several turn overs.

On the half hour mark their grinding approach was rewarded when winger Samayo, as speedy as any in the league, beat the cover defence for a try in the corner.

Heartened by this success, the home side continued to stifle and disrupt the Bromsgrove pattern and on the stroke of half time reduced the arrears with a well taken penalty to trail 18-12.

Birch eased the pressure soon after the restart with a well struck penalty but the hosts were on the rampage.

Inevitably, a hole was found and predictably it was the fleet footed Samayo who found it for his second try of the afternoon.

Bromsgrove's defence held firm for the rest of the afternoon and when it did seem threatened, the home side's handling errors came to the rescue.

The game was settled when winger Tim Hall finished off a strong recycling sequence with a try in the corner.

A fine long-range conversion from Birch gave the visitors a nine-point lead and two more Birch penalty goals secured victory.
