TEENAGERS from a Bromsgrove high school have decided to raise cash for young children with terminal illnesses.

Rebecca Armstrong, Zoe Powell, Leah Schofield, Michelle O'Hara, Laura Robinson, Jenny Cowin and Christina Gorman, from North Bromsgrove High School, were spurred into action after a visit from a representative of the Joshua Foundation, telling them about the appeal.

Now they have devised a series of innovative ideas to raise money and to visit children with terminal cancer.

The kind-hearted youngsters have already collected £200 towards their target of £15,750, of which half will go to the appeal.

They are now looking to put on a talent show at the school and are urging fellow pupils to take part.

The determined sixth-formers have also contacted Bromsgrove District Council to gain a license to allow them to hold a street collection in the town and at a motorway services area.

Rebecca Armstrong was keen to drum up public support.

Cancer

"We decided to raise half for the charity, while the rest will allow us to carry out conservational work and take gifts to terminally ill children in cancer hospitals in Australia," she said.

The Joshua Foundation was set up in 1998 after Joshua Cornelius, from Wales, died from Desmoplastic Round Cell Tumour of the abdomen.

The money from the foundation helps provide holidays for young children with terminal cancer.

Rebecca added that they had already contacted Webbs of Wychbold and LG Harris, in Stoke Heath, as well as gaining support from BRMB's Cash For Kids charity.

"We have gained a lot interest but are hoping to encourage more local businesses to sponsor us," she said.
