DROITWICH Spa MP Peter Luff said he reluctantly supports the impending war with Iraq without the backing of the United Nations.
Speaking from the House of Commons ahead of yesterday's crucial vote, the Conservative MP said he and his party, at both local and national level would advocate military action in Iraq.
"I have just heard the Prime Minister make, what I believe, is an overwhelming case for military action.
"We have the choice of doing nothing or taking action now, and for future generations I believe we should take action."
Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was given a 48-hour ultimatum by America's president George Bush to leave Iraq or face immediate military invasion. However, the UN has not supported the military action planned by the UK, USA and Spain.
Mr Luff, a Tory whip, added: "I have heard a lot of different views expressed to me by local people but I feel on balance it is time we take action."
Across the district, Tory MP Julie Kirkbride, for neighbouring Bromsgrove and Worcester's Labour MP Mike Foster were also expected to support the government. However Wyre Forest MP, Independent Richard Taylor and Hereford's Paul Keetch were set to oppose.
