Cleobury 0 Wolverhampton 3

Cleobury Ladies National League side played local rivals Wolverhampton for a difficult last home match.

Cleobury had only 6 players and were aware of the reputation of a very strong, top of the table Wolves side. Cleobury failed to rise to the challenge and they handed an easy victory to the home side.

The first and second set were very disappointing. Cleobury handed the away side two easy sets by failing to serve or pass any where near their normal standard. Wolves took the easy points and cruised home looking frankly bored. They took the first set 25:7 and the second set 25:13. Could this be the quickest match ever!

In the third set Cleobury finally started to play.Player of the day Clare Jones began to trouble the Wolves defence with some big reverse and middle hits.

Cleobury's block also began to read the fast attacks and both Becky Brookes and Jones stuff blocked the Wolves attack. The team took the lead for the first time in the game at 10:8 as finally found their fight.

Cleobury's defence showed glimmers of its glorious best with both Sam Harding and Sophie Cooke rescuing lost balls. Cleobury kept their noses just in front at 19:18 but Wolves were in no mood for another set. They upped the pace on the net attacks and swung the advantage back in their favour.

Cleobury continued to battle hard with Lyndsey Rankin sneaking a side out by hitting off hands. Wolves had set point at 24:21 up though and Cleobury couldn't match the pace of another short attack. Final set score, a much more respectable 25:21.

Cleobury are now safe from relegation but would dearly love to win their last game away to Tameside and finish the season on a high.
