Springvale Rovers 1

Barley Mow 2

SPRINGVALE missed an opportunity to move into the top half of the Kiddermin-ster League Premier Divis-ion table when they lost at home to mid-table Barley Mow, who played for the second half with only 10 men.

Both sides found it difficult to keep possession on the bumpy surface and the first period developed into a rather dull and scrappy mid-field tussle.

Just before the break the Barley Mow striker struck out at a Vale defender and the referee had no option but to show the offender the red card.

The second half started dramatically when Vale scored straight from the kick-off after a break down the right culminated in a cross which was headed home by substitute Chris Bunn.

With the advantage of an extra man Vale should have taken control of the game. However Barley Mow refus-ed to buckle and stunned their hosts with an equaliser on the hour.

There looked to be no danger when the visiting attacker picked up the ball 35 yards out, but he turned his man and thundered an unstoppable drive into the roof of the net.

With all to play for both teams pushed forward but it was the visitors who succeeded when they surprised the home goalkeeper with a delicate lob which found the target for the decisive goal.
