A HOT prospect from Droitwich Spa Amateur Boxing Club is enjoying the most successful spell of his short career by reaching the finals of the National Schools Boxing Championships.
Adam Mytton, aged 15, convincingly won his semi-final bout against Neil Hepper (Darlington) at Cradley Heath last Saturday to reach the showpiece at Barnsley, set for Saturday, March 29.
Adam, who has won 11 of 13 fights since starting at the club last year, is the fifth Spa fighter to reach the national finals in the last six years.
He nearly had to pull out of the contest because of a hand injury sustained two weeks ago in the Midlands Finals but fought through the pain.
A pupil at St Augustine's RC School, in Redditch, Mytton had the edge in all three rounds against Hepper.
But he will be the club's only representative after 16-year-old Michael Pardoe, a champion last year, and Marc Bonehill, also aged 16, were both defeated in the last four on points.
Pardoe faced Anthony Bowker from Manchester, who has only lost once in his career, and put up a fight despite an impressive display of powerful punching from his opponent.
Bonehill also faced an exceptionally strong opponent in Liverpool's Paul Edwards. He was taken all the way by Bonehill, who finished the stronger but could not make up the points deficit from the first two rounds.
