TWO Alcester schools could merge next year in a move welcomed by both staff and governors.
Proposals were mooted, at the County Council Cabinet meeting on March 13, to move Alcester Infants School to St Faith's Junior School site by September 2004.
Formal talks between Warwickshire County Council, both sets of governors and other key townsfolk met with approval and county education officer, Eric Wood, was authorised to conduct a consultation on proposals to:
a) Close both schools with effect from 31 August 2004.
b) Ask the Coventry Diocesan Board of Education to establish a new C of E voluntary controlled school for pupils aged 4 to 11 together with early years provision on the site of St Faith's Junior School.
If merger plans are unsuccessful Alcester Infants School could lose half of its temporary classrooms.
