IMPROVEMENTS on the roundabout dubbed 'suicide island' on the A46 in Salford Priors started on Monday.
There will be about six weeks of maintenance work after pressure from motorists and MP for Alcester, John Maples.
But the work has taken more than seven years to come about - which Mr Maples said was just not good enough.
Highways Agency route sponsor Bob Bilbie said the work would involve a wide range of maintenance and improvement work to the A46 at Salford Priors, extending two 500m sections either side of the roundabout.
Work will be carried out from 7.30am-5pm on weekdays and from 7.30am-1pm on Saturdays.
There are set to be lane closures, variable speed limits of between 10 and 40mph, and traffic will have to go in convoy during some of the work.
The Highways Agency is also asking motorists to take extra care during the work after 11 road workers were killed on Highway Agency roadworks between October 2000 and February 2002.
