THE recent funeral service for Ivor Reynolds, 77, at St Mary's Church, Tenbury Wells, recalled many fond memories of a much-respected man and his good works in and around Tenbury Wells.
Born in Onibury, he went to school in Ludlow, where he sang in the church choir. He was also bass drummer in the Boys' Brigade Band. He always put his full energy into everything he did and old friends recalled that he once managed to push his drumstick through the drumskin while marching through Ludlow.
When he left school, Ivor became manager at Baxters in Tenbury, rising to become district manager.
He was also a founder member, past president and, latterly, honorary life member of Tenbury Chamber of Trade.
During the Second World War he served as a wireless operator with the Royal Navy and was proud to have been awarded the Burma Star.
A popular sportsman, he played cricket for Boraston and Nash and was a keen bowls enthusiast. At the time of his death, he was the Tenbury Club president and treasurer.
He was a member of Tenbury Branch of the Royal British Legion, the Royal Naval Association, and other local organisations.
Ivor was married to Audrey for 55 years, and leaves a son Colin, daughter-in-law Pam and two grandchildren.
Donations in his memory are to be shared between Tenbury Hospital League of Friends and the Kemp Hospice Fund.
