BASKETBALL: Airedale Kidderminster Cobras recorded a great 70-59 West Midlands Premier Basketball League victory at Bushbury Blazers who were unbeaten at home for more than two years.
Mark Bonshor, returning from three weeks out with a wrist injury, top scored with 21 points in a well-deserved success.
Cobras may have been missing two key players in Matt Law and Roy Francis but they still overcame a stern test from third-placed Blazers.
The first quarter was level at 18-18 with the home side's two impressive National League players posing much of the questions though Bonshor and Ian Marriott hit back for Cobras.
But the second quarter proved to be Kidderminster's best of the season as Bonshor showed deadly accuracy from distance, while Martin Usherwood, Marriott and Mark Davis chipped in.
Incredibly strong defence guided Cobras to an amazing 23 points without reply until Bushbury finally found the basket in the ninth minute.
Cobras kept a 12-point advantage going into the final quarter despite the expected comeback.
The deficit was cut to eight points with four minutes left as Bushbury disrupted Cobras with aggressive man-to-man play.
Coach Terry Cash called a time-out and the response was magnificent with Paul Phelps continuing to do a great ball-handling job.
Accuracy from the line meant there was no way back and Cobras were elated at a great victory.
Marriott sank 13 points, Davis 12 and Phelps seven.
