MOTORSPORT: Mixed results summed up Nathan Freke's weekend after a tricky contest at the Glan Y Gors circuit in North Wales.
The Kidderminster kart racer had limited engine testing prior to race day and was found to be lacking set-up in both carburation and kart.
Freke drove superbly in the heats to finish second and first, gaining a front-row position for the A final, but a couple of 10ths off the pace of the local club champion.
Efforts to modify the kart in order to find the necessary speed did not pay off until lap seven out of 20 which was too late for victory and he had to settle for second place.
Freke was part of a sixth-form project at his former school Bewdley High and he attended a presentation on the achievements of ex-pupils.
He said: "It was great to think my ex-school found my progress since leaving worthy of study."
Freke competes in the new ICC 125 class at Fulbeck, near Newark in Nottinghamshire, this weekend.
He hopes for a maiden victory at the level.
