Nuneaton Griff 5,
Pershore Town 2
TOWN'S run of four games without defeat came to an abrupt end on Saturday.
The Griff were in front after only two minutes when skipper Lee Bateman outjumped the defence to head home a corner kick.
Tafft missed a chance to equalise when well placed. He tried a lob that was wide but followed up with a challenge in the six-yard box for the ball to run free that Joe Maidment pushed wide.
After 21 minutes, Dean Wise gave the ball away for the Griff to go further ahead when Lee Smith netted.
The visitors had one brief spell of possession and, seven minutes before the break, a great through pass by full back Adam Simpson was picked up by Will Pedley, who ran on to drive past keeper Mark Dunn.
Early in the second half, Tony McLean's corner kick was powerfully headed on target by Simpson, only to be denied by a superb Dunn save.
On the hour, Wise had a free shot for goal inside the box but the ball flew wide before a Maidment effort bounced on to the crossbar.
Griff's Oggie Whitehead made it 3-1 at the second attempt 17 minutes from time a d that prompted manager Nigel Russell to make a double substitution, replacing Maidment and Simpson with Simon Judge and Chris Allen.
Pershore had two appeals for penalties turned down and two more Griff goals added to visiting frustration.
Tafft failed to get on the scoresheet but he made the second for Pedley with a simple tap-in in the fourth minute of injury time.
