EVESHAM'S Under-8s and 10s competed in the Wolverhampton Mini/Midi Tournament at Castlecroft, the RFU National Centre for schools and youth last weekend.
The younger squad consisted of Joe Beirns, Ben Capaldi, Michael Harris, Jack Hughes, Adam Johnson, Ellis Jones, Connor McGaughan, Alex and Iain Stoddart, Joe and Wil Taylor and Lucy Goddard.
They played three seven-aside matches in their league against Wolverhampton, Old Leamingtonians and Shrewsbury.
They all gave it 110 per cent, producing commendable passing and tackling to finish third in their group.
Wolverhampton 5, Evesham U-8s 3
EVESHAM failed to be intimidated by the home side and threw themselves into the game.
Unfortunately, the tries scored by Hughes (2) and Capaldi, and some very assertive tackling from captain Taylor wasn't enough to hold the opposition at bay.
Evesham U-8 1, Old Leamingtonians 5
LEAMS were determined not to make it easy for an Evesham team captained by Jones.
Despite a real fight and a couple of near misses from Hughes, Evesham's only try came from six-year-old Taylor.
Shrewsbury 3, Evesham U-8 5
IN their third and final match, the players really had the bit between their teeth.
Refusing to contemplate anything other than a victory, the players put up a real fight.
Tries from Goddard, Taylor and a hat-trick from Hughes guaranteed a win that was totally deserved.
