AN EARLIER than normal start time will be required when the Evesham and District Association stages its finals and presentation evening at Bengeworth Church House on Saturday, April 12.
Following 11 hours of play last Sunday, the organisers were unable to play the Dill-worths Ltd mens singles or Dorothy Macfarlane ladies singles semi-finals. These will get proceedings under way around 5.30pm on finals night.
Reigning mens singles champion Matt Hartwell will meet Wyre clubmate Malcolm Macfarlane with Bengeworth Tigers' teammates Grahame Brown and Stuart Greene playing in the other.
In the ladies, Wyre Netting's Wendy Moulton will attempt to upset reigning champion Lynda Reid with Littleton Aces Jill Stride meeting last year's runner-up Aileen Berry.
A new name will go on to both Happy Little Sole Junior boys and girls trophies with Craig Norledge (Bengeworth Blue) taking on Andrew Taylor of Littleton Loopers who came back from two sets down in the semi-final to beat Tom Urbanski.
The biggest surprise in the girls' event was that Cadet champion Leanne Sully failed to reach the semi-finals when losing out in her group to Stephanie Beswick.
Beswick perished in the last four to fast improving Rachael Sellick who will meet 2002 runner-up Eleanor Lasota who beat younger sister Anna in the other semi.
Wyre Piddle's domination of the Cotswold Provisions Ltd mens doubles continued with all four finalists coming from Wyre Elite.
Matt Hartwell and new partner Darrell Wiltshire will face Ken Southwell and Grahame Fisher after both survived five-set semis.
Jill Stride and Jean Lewis will be looking to win The McLe-nnans Building Contractors ladies doubles for a fourth time when they take on Bengeworth's Peggy Mytton and Anny Roper.
Grahame Brown is chasing a sixth successive Pete Bott Skips veteran mens title when he takes on Malcolm Macfar-lane who was successful five times out of six in the early 90s.
Jill Stride and Wendy Moulton will contest The RK Services ladies equivalent.
Reigning champions Lynda Reid and Rob Sexton battled hard to reach the final of the Star Soccer mixed doubles event where they will meet Mark Dudley and Maria Casas.
Littleton's "Mr Table Tennis" Ken Baker did magnificently to reach the H20 Handicap Singles final. Having to give eight points in both quarter and semi-finals to Jamie Anderson and Rachael Sellick he dug in to come through to meet David Fisher (Wyre Coils) where again he will be conceding eight points.
Luke and Amy Moffat will feature in The Schizo Design Junior drawn doubles but, at opposite ends of the table - Luke with Leon Williams and Amy with Tom Urbanski.
The only event to be played to a conclusion was the GLB Services Veteran drawn doubles with Rob Sexton and Jill Stride coming back from two sets behind in both the quarter-final and in the final to defeat the unlucky Lynda Reid and Peggy Mytton 5-11, 11-13, 11-9, 11-4, 13-11.
