NEXT Saturday (March 29) there will be a chance to see what the Dance Artists in Residence (DAiR) project at Malvern Theatres has achieved since its launch in January.
The project, organised by Birmingham-based DanceXchange, is part of an initiative which is bringing dance performances and practical opportunities to venues all over the region.
The dancers in residence at Malvern Theatres are Rachael Alexander and Jenny Dunn. Both have had extensive performing and teaching experience, Jenny with ACE Dance and Music, and Rachael with Raw Dance Company. They have now settled in to Malvern Theatres and are part of a hard-working and enthusiastic team.
Together, they have been working with a number of primary schools, including Callow End, Castlemorton and Somers Park on pieces for Worcestershire Arts Education's dance festivals. They have also been leading open sessions at the theatre for youth groups, over-50s, artists and teachers.
Rachael has been working with a group of adults with learning disabilities at Malvern Social and Educational Centre, in Geraldine Road. Next Saturday's show includes some of the pieces created, plus work created with street dance choreographer Banxty.
Tickets cost £2 (£1 concessions) and are available from the box office on 01684 892277. The show, at Malvern Theatres, starts at 12.30pm.
The opportunities for joining in are not over: on April 25-27 there is a cross-generational Easter project, with age groups for 5-12, 13-25 and 25-plus. The cost is £20.
After that, Jenny and Rachael will go back to leading their regular sessions at Malvern Theatres.
There is also a half-term course for children aged 9-14 on May 26-3. For details of all of these, call the box office.
DAiR has been funded in part by local firm Malvern Instruments.
