COLWALL Women's Hockey Club slipped to a surprising 2-0 defeat at lowly Lansdown.

LANSDOWN 1ST XI 2, COLWALL 1ST XI 0

The Gloucestershire side had the better of a scrappy first half and both goalkeepers were kept busy early on with Nina Emery and Polly Bounds having shots blocked from short corners.

Lansdown scored midway through the half and continued to bombard the Colwall goal in search of a second but the defence stood firm.

The half time break gave Colwall a chance to re-group and they came out a much better side in the second half with Karen Hackley putting some dangerous crosses in, the final touch elusive.

A prolonged period of pressure on the Lansdown goal followed but despite several short corners Colwall couldn't find an equaliser. Lansdown tried to counter attack and created scoring opportunities but player of the match Gemma Richards made some crucial tackles to keep Colwall in the game.

With time running out Colwall pushed forward again and had a goal disallowed. To end a frustrating day Lansdown scored a breakaway goal to secure a welcome three points in their relegation battle.

Colwall play their final league game at home to Gloucester tomorrow (Saturday) at Ledbury Leisure Centre, start 12.30pm.
