THE Soccer Site Malvern League Division One leaders Bull Allstars hosted the only team to have beaten them in the league this season when Talbot Head visited Ledbury.
With the visitors starting with only eight men due to injuries and suspensions, before briefly going up to nine only to be reduced to eight again by injury quite quickly, the outcome was never in doubt.
The depleted team held out until the 15th minute, mainly due to Talbot's emergency goalkeeper Dave Benson who made a series of fine saves, before Bull Allstars took the lead.
Although it was another ten minutes before Bull Allstars increased their lead, goals then followed at regular intervals and they ran out easy victors by 11-0.
Their goal scorers were Jamie James (five), Mark Toman (four) Adrian Jones and Neil Jones.
Credit must be paid to the understrength visitors with two of their starters carrying injuries .
Special mention must be made of keeper Dave Benson, who defied the years and injuries sustained during the course of the match to more than play his part.
The teams chasing the Bull Allstars kept their challenges up with Morgan Aero 8, Green Dragon and Club AC 30 all having comfortable victories.
Morgan Aero 8 maintained runners up spot with a 6-1 victory over Worcester Juniors. Their goalscorers were, Marcus Spencer, Richard Bird, Andy Noon, Simon Field and Jordan Miller (two) with Worcester Juniors response coming from Jamie Lawrence.
Green Dragon, with games in hand over Morgan Aero 8, seem to be the team that can challenge Bull Allstars for the title. They beat Eeore by an emphatic 9-0. Goalscorers were Jason West-macott (four), D Gwynne (two) and a goal each for S Davies, S Graham and J Stevens.
Having only suffered one defeat this season, and that by the narrowest of margins to Bull Allstars, the run in to the end of the season could be very interesting, especially the return match, which is one of the final matches.
Club AC 30 recovered from their surprise loss the previous week to defeat Fromes Hill 4-0. This game saw Fromes Hill suffer from the 'Sunderland syndrome' when they managed to concede three own goals. Jason Payton-Smith scored the other goal.
Bell Inn 98 suffered a heavy defeat at home to Kempsey United Reserves, who notched up seven goals without reply. Although this was a below normal strength Bell 98 side, nothing should be taken away from an excellent performance by Kempsey United Reserves. The goal scorers were Kevin Drew, Steven Freear, Ryan Leigh (two), 16-year-old Martin Lindsey and a brace by second half substitute Calvin Fowler.
Dynamo Ledbury and Madresfield shared the points with a 1-1 draw. Wayne Eggerton put the visitors ahead following a corner just before half time with the home side's equaliser scored by John Walker, who beat the offside trap to fire home in the 50th minute.
The only other Division One game was a battle of the two bottom clubs with visitors Brewery triumphing 4-2 over St Peters in a very sporting and entertaining game.
Brewery were buoyed by the return after six weeks of Patrick Locke, who notched a hat-trick, with Gavin Locke scoring the other goal. They were indebted to excellent work on the wings by Dean Kibble and man of the match Blakie Smith, who sent over a series of crosses which led to the goals.
St Peters' goals were by Graham Hossack who ran almost the length of the pitch to score a fine individual goal and Mark Townsend. After this much-improved performance Brewery are looking forward to the visit of Madresfield next week.
In the only Soccer Site Malvern League U18 game, visitors Barnards Green Juniors scored a comfortable 8-2 victory over Battledown Saracens. The goal scorers were Tim Lambeth (three), Tom Carr (two), and a goal apiece for Sam Roberts, Edd Wray and Adam Webb with the goals for the home side coming from Alan Groves and Freddie Reis de-Ponte.
West Midlands FC have now officially withdrawn from the league and so their record has been removed from the table.
Widemarsh Rangers have been withdrawn from the U18s division by default and their record has also been removed.
