A DECISION as to whether or not to sell a controversial play area is expected when Malvern Town Council meets next week.
Some nearby residents say the Avon Close play area in Malvern is abused by youths lighting fires, making noise at night and behaving in an intimidating manner. They have been lobbying Malvern Town Council for more than a year to sell it for housing.
However, others have come out in support of the enclosed area, which contains play equipment, saying it is a valuable resource for children.
The council will now choose one of two options at its full meeting on Monday.
The first is to sell off the play area. Possible uses of the land would be considered, with housing as a possibility.
The second is to put anti-vandal measures in place, such as reducing the height of conifers surrounding the park, introducing "bar benches" which do not encourage long stays, and closing the park every night. This second option could cost £11,000.
The meeting will take place at the council's Belle Vue Terrace offices at 7.30pm.
