FOLLOWING the previous week's cup semi-final victory it was back to league business for Wanderers with the visit of Lyppard Juniors.

MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U14s 8, LYPPARD RANGERS JUNIIORS U14s 1

Wanderers took the initiative early on as fine build up play between Shaun Carrey and Luke Arnold set up Zach Blood to hammer home from six yards. Minutes later Zach Blood doubled his tally with a clever finish from Luke Arnold's unselfish delivery. A minute later Zach Blood completed his hat-trick as Luke Arnold again was provider. On the stroke of half time former Wanderers' striker Michael Dicapita reduced the deficit from a free kick set piece.

The second half saw the home team with their tails up and it wasn't long before Zach Blood coolly stroked his penalty kick home following a hand ball in the area. Luke Arnold then made no mistake as he deservedly took his chance from Scott Robert's through ball. Matt Hopwood's fine left wing run picked out Shaun Carrey to finish decisively from close range. Shaun Carrey's tricky right wing foray saw him upended in the visitor's box, up stepped Zach Blood to claim his fifth of the game with another precise spot kick. Number eight came as Matt Hopwood's quality corner could only be headed home by a beleaguered Lyppard defender.

Man of the match, sponsored by Malvern Tree and Garden Services, was Zach Blood.

MALVERN UNITED 1, MOSTYN RANGERS 2

MALVERN United U14s welcomed Mostyn Rangers to Sling Lane for their latest league fixture which enjoyed bright sunshine.

As usual Malvern were caught napping after 14 minutes when Mostyn went ahead with a spectacular shot which left keeper Alex Jenkins with no chance. Seven minutes later Mostyn went two up following a defensive mix up. This was the wake up call that United needed and they started to play some quality football with Nik Zikking and Liam Harford making inroads on the wings to great effect sending in crosses to Dave Reynolds who was unlucky not to have a hat-trick. Twice he beat the Mostyn keeper only to see his shots go agonisingly inches wide and he also headed over from close range. Lee Jenkins was also causing havoc with his strong workmanlike performance and was rewarded in the 30th minute with a well taken goal fed by a well judged pass from Dave Reynolds, initiated by Nik Zikking.

Shortly before half time United were again unlucky not to equalise when a set piece free kick just inside the centre circle between Liam Harford, Nik Zikking and Andy Nolan saw the latter's dead ball shot rocket just wide of the upright with Mostyn defenders well beaten.

In the second half United went up a gear and took control of the game looking for that elusive goal. However every combination of how not to score was played out with the usual contenders of Reynolds, Jenkins, Harford and Zikking all deserving to get on the score sheet but not quite managing it. Craig Baker and Jim Lonsdale also played their part with some delightful passing to the front runners.

With the United defence of Craig Philpotts, Dom Portman, Gareth Atkinson and Mike James looking strong and organised and keeper Alex Jenkins on tip top form Mostyn could not find a way through to increase their lead.

Man of the match was Lee Jenkins.

MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U13s 6,

WESTBURY BOYS U13s 1

WANDERERS had a tough battle in the first half of this Mercian Elgar League match.

Westbury attacked with real energy from the start and went ahead with a well taken goal from Guisseppi Saladino. Wanderers slowly got back into the game and a fine strike by Ryan Mansbridge and a delicate chip from Jack Higgs gave them a 2-1 advantage at half time.

On a very hot afternoon and with fresh substitutes on, the superior fitness of the Malvern boys soon told. Although Westbury struggled gamely to the end they were overwhelmed. Luke Butler, Max White and Mat Hopkinson played very well in midfield and Lloyd Merrick chased down anything loose. Ryan Mansbridge lobbed the keeper, Jack Higgs scored again and Calum Campbell first got a lucky deflection and then crowned the afternoon with his first ever headed goal.

WELLAND U13s 6, BROMYARD U13s 1

A POSITIVE start by Welland saw Richard Phelps put away his first goal within five minutes.

However Bromyard broke down Welland's defence and although keeper Austin Watts blocked their first attempt on goal the ball went in on the rebound. An unsettled Welland faced further attempts on goal with the keeper making two further great saves and defender Dan Griffiths clearing one off the line. Welland turned on the pressure with Josh Brentnall showing great flair and accuracy which paid off when he passed a through ball for Richard Phelps to put away making it 2-1 at half time.

The second half saw a confident unstoppable Welland team. Richard Tuck, Ben Marks and man of the match Alex Woods worked well in midfield together with some great one touch football. Welland's defence of Ashley Shouler, Dan Griffiths, Tom Jeffs and Jamie Haffield worked tirelessly. There were a further three goals for Richard Phelps including a lob from the half way line before he was substituted for Tom Hines. Last but not least we must mention the cool and calculated lob by Welland's Aaron Richards.

NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS U11s 2

GOODREST JUNIORS U11s 2

THIS U11s match was a close and entertaining contest with the draw as a fair result.

The home side created many chances in the first half with the midfield trio of Louis Loader, Dan Hunt and Andy Matthews controlling the game. The opening 10 minutes saw Loader, Hunt and Chris DeBonis playing good, skilful attacking football, with DeBonis unlucky not to open the scoring with half chances on three occasions. Goodrest were quick on the break and only good defending by Ed Ferguson and Richard Higgs prevented the away team from taking the lead. In the 23rd minute it was Richard Higgs who opened the score, with a powerful header, that gave the keeper no chance.

The second half continued much as the first, with Newtown defending a slender one goal lead, until the eigth minute when excellent, one touch football between Tom Davis and Louis Loader, gave Loader the opportunity to make it 2-0 to the home side with a well placed shot and the keeper well beaten.

Newtown's keeper, Chris Reynolds was forced to make a string of fine saves before he was caught out by two quick goals in four minutes. The first an own goal from a poor back pass, and the second from a powerful shot parried out into the path of a Goodrest player, who managed to chip a shot into the top right hand corner of the net. Newtown continued to press, and the Goodrest defence came under intense pressure in the last few minutes, but to no avail.

EVESHAM UNITED U11s 2,

MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U11s 2

MALVERN Town Wanderers U11s came from two goals behind to rescue a point when they travelled to Evesham for their penultimate away fixture of the season on Saturday.

Both team started brightly, Wanderers' Natalie Chadney distributing well from defence whilst the Robins' goalkeeper Andrew Taylor was in excellent form to deny Adam Mayo from opening the scoring. Evesham took the lead when Lewis Ridley latched onto a through ball and hopes were high amongst the home supporters that the record of United not losing whenever he scores would continue. The home team doubled their advantage when Wanderers failed to clear the ball and Daniel Coupe rifled the ball into the back of the net. Malvern reorganised and the influential Alex Wren brought them back into the match just before half time when he slotted the ball home from Douglas Howie's cross.

In the second half Wanderers pressed forward and Josh Asquith brought them back to level terms with a well taken goal after a surging run from midfield. Josh Ball continued to drive Wanderers forward and Harry Blood's probing runs created further opportunities but the visitors were unable to score. At the other end Bobs Mackichan and keeper Ben Wheeler remained vigilant to deny the Evesham attackers on the break and a draw was a fair result.

SUCKLEY HARRIERS U10s 1,

NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS U10s 6

NEWTOWN produced a fine performance to defeat Suckley Harriers by 6-1.

Newtown scored an early goal when Matt Wren latched onto to a loose ball and cracked the ball home with a precision strike. Newtown dominated with their incisive pass and move football but fine defending and good goalkeeping kept them out. Suckley had no chance with the second goal when the impressive Watling received the ball in midfield and taking two steps forward unleashed a tremendous drive that flew into the top corner. Suckley responded positively and almost pulled one back but Freeman in the Newtown goal managed to block the goalbound shot. He was powerless a minute later when a well floated free kick was headed into his own net by Carlen. Newtown ended the half by restoring their advantage a fine run by Watling and then an unselfish pass to Bannister saw him have the easiest of tap ins.

The second was totally dominated by Newtown and only some superb defending and bad finishing kept the score down. Turner made an amazing run past four defenders and the goalkeeper but failed to find the target. Bannister made it four with a delicate chip and then two scrambled goals made it six. Firstly Peter Brankin reacted quickest when the ball bobbled in the area and then Turner took advantage of a rare goalkeeping mistake.

Man of the match was Eric Carlen.

EVESHAM UNITED ROBINS 4,

NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS U9S 1

NEWTOWN travelled to Evesham for what was always going to be a difficult encounter against an unbeaten Robins team.

Right from the start Newtown looked as though they were up for this game and they came close to scoring when George Parsons narrowly missed the target after being put through with a fine ball by Harry Wickett. Newtown settled into the game well but they soon found themselves a goal down after a well taken corner was finished off by the Evesham striker. Newtown picked themselves up and went looking for the equaliser. Tom Milner went on a fine run but his shot was well saved and George Parsons narrowly missed with another good shot. In the Newtown defence Josh Myhill was having a good game and he denied Evesham on numerous occasions with some excellent headers. Evesham increased their lead when their midfielder won possession and hit an unstoppable shot past the Newtown keeper. Newtown however got back into the game when keeper Sam Parsons hit a long goal kick that put Rowan Standish-Hayes clean through with just the keeper to beat, Standish-Hayes made no mistake with a cool finish.

The second half started with Evesham enjoying a lot of the possession and they increased their lead from another well worked corner kick. Newtown tried to get back into the game with Tom Milner producing some good runs from the midfield. Newtown conceded another corner and again Evesham scored from this to make the score 4-1. Newtown did not give up and continued to battle right to the end.

This was an all round team performance from Newtown against a very good and well organised Evesham side.

Man of the match for Newtown this week was awarded to the whole team.

OLDBURY PARK TIGERS U9S 3,

NEWTOWN SPORTS COLTS U9S 1

NEWTOWN gave a good team performance but on the day Oldbury were a lot stronger and gained all three points.

In the first half the Colts played well, until the Colts' full back tried to clear the ball, unfortunately it ended up in the top left hand corner of the Colts' net putting the Tigers 1-0 up.

In the second half the Colts started to improve, putting the Tigers under pressure, trying to get that equalising goal, but it just didn't come.

Tigers second goal, came when Ashlea Brewer, the Colts' keeper, made three consecutive saves, but the Colts' defence failed to clear the ball and the Tigers' attack was there to pounce on the lose ball to score their second goal.

The Tigers' third was a soft goal to concede. The ball was passed to a Tigers' striker on the edge of the Colts penalty area, with his back to goal, he just helped the ball on into the corner of the net, leaving the unsighted keeper helpless.

The Colts consolation goal came from the penalty spot. Dominic Ferguson got into the Tigers' penalty area, tried to loop the ball over the defender, who was adjudged to have handled the ball. Dominic Ferguson took the penalty, and executed the spot kick perfectly.

The Colts man of the match award was shared between Ollie Bond and Ashlea Brewer.
