A NEW CD-ROM to promote Worcestershire will be launched at what could be the county's biggest-ever gathering of the local tourist trade.

Worcestershire County Council has sent out more than 1,000 invitations to tourism businesses inviting them to the Worcestershire Tourism Forum, at Worcester Rugby Club's Sixways stadium.

The forum is being organised to launch the new tourism strategy for Worcestershire.

It will also give businesses a chance to hear about the very latest tourism research and the implications of the Disability Discrimination Act on organisations that cater for tourists.

Tourism is the county's third largest industry. The forum is open to owners and managers of hotels, guest houses, self-catering accommodation, attractions, tea shops, restaurants and all businesses in the tourism sector.

Sir William Lawrence, chairman of Visit Heart of England, the tourist board responsible for tourism in Herefordshire and Worcestershire, is due to address the forum.

Peter Smith, the county council's economic regeneration and planning manager, is also due to speak.

Best chance

Kathryn Wagstaff, Worcestershire County Council's tourism officer, said while the forum - due to take place in April - seemed a long way off, the council wanted to ensure people had the best chance of attending.

"We're coming to a busy time of year and we want to make sure that it's in people's diaries," she said.

"We've also shortened the event so that as many people can attend as possible."

Worcestershire County Council is organising the forum on behalf of its partners, including Bromsgrove District Council, Malvern Hills District Council, Redditch Borough Council, Worcester City Council, Wychavon District Council and Wyre Forest District Council.

A complimentary lunch with a local flavour will be provided, during which the innovative CD-ROM will be launched.

Businesses will also have the chance to swap promotional literature with other local businesses and take advantage of prime networking opportunities.

Places are limited for the forum, due to take place on Tuesday, April 29, at 10.30am.

Any tourism business that has not received an invitation can call Joanne Moores on 01905 766746 to book a place.
