A DRINK-driving spinster drove into a garden on a "bizarre" journey home, Worcester Magistrates heard.

Sixty-year-old Judith Blaymire had shared a bottle of white wine with friends in Malvern before attempting to drive home with her two dogs in the back of the car.

An off-duty policeman spotted her driving her Peugeot 306 at between 15 and 30mph in a 60mph limit zone along the A38.

"The officer also described her driving as erratic, wandering to the near side and the offside, crossing the central line and back," said Mark Soper, prosecuting at yesterday's hearing.

"The vehicle mounted the pavement at one point and the vehicle left the road and went into someone's garden," Mr Soper said.

The officer tried to identify himself, but Blaymire waved him off and drove away, the court heard.

Blaymire drove on towards Upton-upon-Severn where she drove up High Street on the wrong side of the road.

She was arrested by other officers, but despite being "unfailingly polite" and trying to co-operate with officers, was unable to provide a sample, said Joe Kieran defending.

Blaymire had not eaten that day and estimated she had drunk three glasses of wine before the incident on Wednesday, February 5.

But neither she nor her friend thought she was impaired, said Mr Kieran.

Her driving had also been impaired by one of her dogs barking.

The solicitor added his client was of exceptional character, without any previous convictions, and because of her limited mobility, losing her licence would be a "complete and utter disaster for her."

Blaymire, of Malvern Road in Redditch, admitted the charges of dangerous driving and failure to provide a specimen.

She was banned from driving for two years, fined £250 for dangerous driving, fined £150 for failing to provide a specimen, and ordered to pay £118 costs.
