WORCESTERSHIRE'S John Bickerton was struggling to beat the cut as the Madeira Open entered its second day today.

The Droitwich Golf Club member was tied for 85th place on eight over par after nine holes of his second round.

Yesterday Bickerton battled his way to a four-over-par 76 that included three birdies, seven bogeys and the 33-year-old was soon in trouble again today.

Just one birdie in his opening nine holes and a distrous double-bogey six at the ninth left him with a lot to do.

Wales' Bradley Dredge shared the clubhouse lead on three under par overnight, alongside England's An-drew Marshall and Swede Henrik Stenson.

That was two shots off the pace being set out on the course by Spain's Jesus Maria Arruti and England's Andrew Sherborne. Arruti had played 12 holes of his second round and Sherborne six.
