OVER the last few days, Worcester Woman, Fran Richman, was struck by the bizarre juxtaposition of war and the Oscars.

"We had the artifice and glamour against the horror of war. I was also struck by an exhibition at Worcester Cathedral depicting the powerful image of the phoenix rising from the flames.

This seemed very topical and I just hope that's what happens with our forces. It also reminded me that art is a symbol of free expression, something we, in Britain, take for granted.

"We have seen the conflict move from the technological "virtual reality" to the stark stage of ground combat.

"This is where we start to see the full horror of war. But I'm also aware, we are only seeing what they want us to see and propaganda, on all sides, is playing a big part in this war, as it has throughout history.

" Tony Blair is looking even more gaunt and raw and George Bush, who was looking confident and in command, seems to be becoming more angry. This is worrying and, hopefully, Britain can temper any erratic decisions."
